City Eats Review: Ralph’s Famous Italian Ices.

I have been dying to try Ralph’s Famous Italian Ices since last summer. It was right next to where we lived on Lexington last year, but for some reason I never ventured around the corner. But this summer I made a point to go there! It has been swelteringly hot outside (we just hit our first heat wave that started, appropriately, on the first day of summer) so what could be more refreshing than Italian ice?

Ralph’s may be just a hole in the wall, but it’s packed with tons of flavors and choices!

So on Saturday I made the almost 3 mile walk from my apartment to Ralph’s. And it was worth it! They have so many flavors I wasn’t even sure where to start. I decided to go with the Birthday Cake Cream Ice. Unlike other Italian ice shops, Ralph’s has a variety of rich cream ices that stray away from the normal fruity flavors.

My first venture into cream Italian ice and I’m a major fan. The flavors and deliciousness of ice cream without the high calorie count or sugar rush.

It was amazing- better than any birthday cake ice cream I’ve ever had. And the small, at $3, was slightly more than I could eat. It wasn’t too rich and ice cream-y which was great. This was unlike any Italian ice I’ve had and I will be headed back for more! Plus this is only the second season it’s been open so it’s not crazy packed or touristy (yet)!
