Almost every Thanksgiving I go to Lauren’s. Sometimes I’d go even after having dinner at my own house! This is important to note, because Thanksgiving has a huge bar for me to reach this year. Let me begin by saying that Lauren’s mom somehow makes miracles happen. Every year she would make turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, shrimp, biscuits, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, and so many other things I can’t even name them. So I feel a bit of pressure to make a delicious dinner!
This is a photo from a Christmas dinner at Lauren’s, but it’s the same dinner game!
I have never cooked a turkey before. Not even part of a turkey. So this was hugely new territory for me! Plus the stress of turkey cooking, plus realizing I’d need major time management made me a bit freaked. But then my dad told me I was not allowed to cook the turkey! The man who didn’t want to make a turkey told me I couldn’t cook one! Oh well…I had more to worry about with my ever going menu. I planned out what I wanted to make for Thanksgiving: turkey, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, biscuits, green beans, corn, pumpkin pie. (Below there will be a full list of recipes) And I set to work.
I have made a pumpkin pie before, so I knew it took at least an hour to cook. I decided to be safe, I’d make it early. So I choose to make the pumpkin pie on Wednesday.
Of course I didn’t want to miss the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, so I was able to get the turkey started and watch the parade while multitasking. I also knew that I would need the oven for the mac n cheese and biscuits. I choose to go ahead and start the mac n cheese. It then proceeded to sit in the fridge until I closer to dinner time. Around —- I started the mashed potatoes and stuffing.
After that it was all a big downward spiral of getting everything ready. The turkey was almost done, so the mac n cheese went into the oven, the turkey was done so the mac n cheese moved up and the biscuits joined it in the oven, the green beans and corn went into the microwave. The turkey started to be cut (this is something I don’t do- play with knives).
And then finally in one gloriously timed swoop dinner was ready… ok it was more a jumbled mess that finally made it to the table! But still…it was excellent and tasted amazing if I do say so myself!
